NEW CASTLE — Cassidy Marett paced the Lady Greyhounds with 20 assists, 16 digs and seven points in a 25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 25-15 nonregion road win over Laurel.

“I’m not sure how we won tonight,” Wilmington coach Amber Marett said. “Hats off to Laurel, they outplayed us in every aspect of the game.

“Their serving game was extremely aggressive and we were scrambling to just keep the ball in play. The only way we won was heart and hustle.”

Lexi Ligo scooped up 19 digs for Wilmington (3-2, 4-3) and Abby Sotter contributed 14 points, 10 kills, seven digs and three aces. Stephanie Parker notched 13 points, six digs and three kills for the victors, and Katherine Clark added five digs.

“It’s not the best we’ve ever played and it’s not the worst we’ve ever played,” Laurel coach Nikki Downing said. “I’m glad we had the chance to get the cobwebs out after homecoming weekend.

“Wilmington is a solid team. We found some things we have to work on and hopefully we’ll get them corrected.”

The Lady Greyhounds won the JV match as well, 28-26, 26-24.
