NEW CASTLE —
Notice I didn’t say easy. I said simple.
We all crave it.
A simple way to work.
A simple way to live.
Black and white. Clean. Pure. Free.
So why, then, do we always complicate our affairs?
“He who insists on being a victim is far more a prisoner of his choices than his circumstances.” — Dean O’Brien
Want to lose weight?
It’s simple: eat better, move more.
Want to develop your intelligence?
It’s simple: Read more, watch TV less.
Want to be better at your sport or craft?
It’s simple: Don’t just dream, get out of bed and practice.
Want to have better relationships?
It’s simple: Focus on giving more than receiving.
Notice I didn’t say easy.
I said simple.
“There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do.” — Freya Stark
Do you really believe it?
Do you really believe that you can lose weight, grow in wisdom and knowledge, improve your performance and enhance your friendships?
Is that the vision before you?
Then it’s simple: just start. Even the smallest step toward your goal means you are on your way to achieving it.
But I have a feeling you’re going to wait. I have a feeling all you see is the hard work it would take to become those things, so you tell yourself you’ll need more time to prepare.
The month is nearly half over, so you’ll put it off until Aug. 1.
Fight that feeling and get moving.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. There isn’t one. Instead, take the moment in front of you and MAKE it perfect.
“The average man doesn’t want to be free. He wants to be safe.” — H.L. Mencken
You can be outstanding. Or you can be comfortable.
But you can’t be both.
One of them you get to choose.
The other chooses you.
One is safe.
The other, an adventure.
One you’ll be thrilled to see six months down the line.
The other will bring even more misery as you look back on all the time you just wasted.
Oustanding. Or comfortable.
Free. Or safe.
We all KNOW which path we should take.
Too bad it isn’t easy.

- Tim Kolodziej
Tim Kolodziej: I never realized how popular I am
I’ve never realized how many people are thinking about me today. I’ve never realized how many people want what’s “best” for me.
Tim Kolodziej: Heading in the right direction? We’ve got a ‘50-50’ shot
Ever drop a buck or two on the 50-50 at a high school football or basketball game? Life is a lot like that, you know. Sports, especially.
Tim Kolodziej: I know it’s Thursday, but ...
It’s Thursday. At least that’s what my calendar says. Yet for most of us — if we’re really transparent — it’s “When’s-day.” Just like every other day of the week.
Tim Kolodziej: ‘The Noticer Returns’ — and he’s talking to me
I’m a parent. And I mess up. A lot. Just ask my kids. (On second thought, please don’t ask my kids. I’ve got a reputation to uphold.)
Tim Kolodziej: As Winter Olympics begin, it’s time to cheer the legends of The Fall
Any mom or dad who’s watched a child compete in athletics can relate. There are more falls than we can count. The tears drop quicker than we can wipe them away. Winning. Losing. And pretty much everything in-between.
Tim Kolodziej: A hot, hot ticket on a cold, cold night
How bad do you want it? I know, I know. I’ve asked that question dozens of times in this space. And I’m going to ask it again today. But I'm also going to share how I ANSWERED that question earlier this week.
Tim Kolodziej: When life interrupts, let’s make the moment count
The older I get, the more I realize that life comes at us not in waves, or even big splashes, but in moments. And I really struggle to enjoy them.
Tim Kolodziej: Are you a plodder? You’re on your way to success
What’s the old Woody Allen line? The actor and director is credited with saying, “80 percent of success is just showing up.” So true.
Tim Kolodziej: Hey, I want some of that ‘house money,’ too!
“They’re playing with house money.” How many times have we heard announcers use that phrase during the football season? I stopped counting at Christmas. Then I heard it again over the weekend during the NFL wildcard playoffs. You may have, too.
Tim Kolodziej: Four quotes to live by in 2014
Happy new year, everyone! Unreal. I'm still writing 2012 on my checks and … this? Anyway, I love the idea of a fresh start, a chance to wipe the slate clean and start anew.
