Tim Kolodziej: Why changing your outlook can change the direction of your life

NEW CASTLE — We can use our circumstances as a crutch or we can use them as a ladder. What will YOU do today?

You’re frustrated.

You’re angry.

You’re tired and hurt and ... I get it. I really do.

Same challenges, different day.

Bridge out. Another bridge out. Another road closed. And another.

Computer won’t work.

More cutbacks on the job.

Gas prices rising. Again.

What? The presidential election is still more than two months away?

Yeah, me too. Me too.

But there’s hope.

“Even though you’re not yet perfect, you’re still OK. And just because you haven't arrived yet doesn't mean that you’re not on your way.” — Joyce Meyer

Starting today, fight hard not to get frustrated by your present circumstances. I know, I know. Waaaaaaay easier said than done.

But we have to remember, our circumstances will never determine where we END UP — unless we allow them to.

Instead, choose to let the negatives define your STARTING line.

Because in order to really go places, you’ve got to start somewhere.

But before we start, we first need to stop.

Stop throwing your hands up and sinking into the couch. Stop settling for mediocre. Stop living a B-movie version of “Groundhog Day.”

Right here.

Right now.

Today.

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 1:6

We live on an imperfect planet inhabited by imperfect people carrying some pretty heavy bags through the airport on life’s journey.

Make no mistake: I am deeply, deeply flawed. And so are you.

So let’s make the best of it.

Instead of cussing up a storm over the latest road closing, use the extra time in the car as a “university on wheels.” Download a sermon, an inspirational podcast, or learn a new language while on your drive.

Sick of the liberals and conservatives screaming about which team is better? Shut off the TV and pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read. Or call a friend you haven’t heard from in a while. Or play a game.

Lead up. Lead around you. Just lead and stop following the nonsense.

Unless you finally decide to change course, every day will be the same combination of commute, work, TV.

Or work, TV, commute.

Or TV, commute, work.

Same ol’, same ’ol.

Blood pressure high. Spirits low.

Frustrated. Angry. Scared. But never forget that’s only your starting point.

Now let’s start finishing a different story.

Dream. Go. Do.

Today.

There will never be a better time.
