Nurse waives hearing on drug charge

NEW CASTLE — A nurse accused of stealing narcotics from Jameson Hospital’s maternity ward has waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

Charges against Toni Fortuna, 41, of 216 Sunset Drive have been held for court. She was charged following an investigation by New Castle police that spanned more than a year.

Police said Fortuna was taking narcotic painkillers Dilaudid and Fentanyl from a dispenser in the hospital’s maternity ward. Fortuna allegedly told police she had started taking the drugs from the hospital around March or April 2012.

She is charged with a felony count of illegal acquisition and is out of jail on a nonmonetary bond, pending proceedings in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Last week, a hospital spokeswoman declined to say whether Fortuna is still employed at the hospital.

Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado has been suspended five games for sucker punching Pittsburgh’s Travis Snider during a bench clearing brawl on Sunday. You OK with that suspension?

Yes. Seems fair.
No. Baseball NEVER gets it right in these situations. Should have been at least 20 games for his sucker punch into a pile of players.
Not sure, but I’d love to see baseball be like hockey and allow two guys to fight for a while before breaking it up. Let’s see how tough Maldonado is then.
