Suspect in officer’s death is arraigned

NEW CASTLE — Kylee Barletto was arraigned this morning by District Judge Jerry Cartwright.

She is being lodged in the Lawrence County jail on $250,000 bond.

Barletto, 25, is charged with homicide by vehicle and 14 other counts in the May 2 death of Shenango Township police officer William J. McCarthy IV.

Barletto is accused of driving the vehicle that struck the police cruiser McCarthy was in on Cascade Street in New Castle that night. She was injured in the crash, as was the driver of the cruiser, Shenango officer Michael Lynch.

Barletto was accompanied this morning by her attorney, James Ecker of Pittsburgh. District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa represented the prosecution.

A preliminary hearing has been set for May 23.

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
