West Side man sentenced for assault

NEW CASTLE —  A West Side man will spend up to 4 1/2 years in prison for his role in a shooting.

Anthony L. McGeachy, 38 of 216 Wick Ave. was sentenced by Lawrence County President Judge Dominick Motto to serve 27 to 54 months in a state correctional institution with credit for 335 days served.

He was also ordered to pay costs of prosecution and $1 restitution to the victim.

McGeachy, who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, had been arrested following a shooting on Cuba Street in the Lincoln projects on May 13, 2012 He had been jailed on $500,000 bond.

He initially faced 16 charges which included two counts of attempted homicide, four counts of aggravated assault, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, two counts of terroristic threats, prohibited possession of firearms, carrying a concealed firearm without a license and three counts of simple assault.

According to New Castle police, McGeachy shot Leroy Graham of Halco Drive in the leg around 11:30 a.m. on May 13, 2013. Police said at the time they believed McGeachy’s target had been Graham’s son, who was with him at the time of the incident.

In his sentencing, Motto imposed additional sentences on him for other offenses. All will be served concurrently.

Following a guilty plea of theft by deception, McGeachy was sentenced to one to two years in a state correctional institution with credit for 335 days served. He was  ordered to pay costs of prosecution and $600 restitution to the victim.

Motto also revoked McGeachy’s probation and resentenced him to one to two years in a state correctional institution, with credit for 373 days served, on two separate theft pleas.

Court records indicate McGeachy had been sentenced to six years of probation each on the incidents, which occurred in March 2009 and Aug. 2007.
