Man pleads no contest in child sexual assault case

NEW CASTLE — A Union Township man has pleaded no contest to corruption of minors and harassment in Lawrence County common pleas court.

Joshua James Collingwood, 30, of 2208 W. Washington St. is to be sentenced on Nov. 29. He remains free on $5,000 bond.

Collingwood, charged by state police, was accused of sexually assaulting a child over a five-year-period. He had initially faced 27 charges which included unlawful contact with a minor, open lewdness, indecent exposure, indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age, corruption of minors, harassment.

At his preliminary hearing in central court, 13 of the charges were withdrawn and 14 were waived to court.

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
