On the Record: Today's police items and district judge reports

NEW CASTLE — Police

STATE


•Accident. About 7:15 a.m. Tuesday on Wurtemburg Road, Wayne Township. Police said Richard J. Beachem, 35, of New Castle was northbound, crossed into the oncoming lane and struck the left front of a southbound car driven by Jeffrey D. Prokovich, 47, of Ellwood City. Beachem was treated at Ellwood City Hospital and released. Police said Prokovich suffered a minor injury.

•Accident. Police said Patrick C. Geelen, 30, of Emporium, Pa., was eastbound on Route 488, Perry Township about 6:30 p.m. May 15, traveling too fast for conditions and lost control on the wet road. Police said his car crossed the westbound lane, then left the road, traveling backward through a yard and striking a utility pole. No injuries were reported. Geelen was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP

•Endangering. Police were summoned to Shenango Park on Kittery Ridge Drive May 18 for a medical call involving an unresponsive male. Officers said an investigation determined that Dustin Dean, 33, of 1003 Logan St. was under the influence of a controlled substance. He had two children in his custody at the time. Two counts of endangering the welfare of children and one of public drunkenness were filed against Dean.

•Driving under the influence. Police responded to an accident on Gardner Stop Road at Gardner Center Road at 2:25 p.m. May 22. Officers said the motorist, Jared Bartley, 39 of 129 Cobb Drive was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and taken into custody.

•Driving under the influence. Police said they stopped a vehicle, operated by John A. Sipe Jr., 37 of 1801 New Butler Road, at 2 a.m. May 15 on Route 65 at the Route 422 bypass after it failed to remain in its lane. They said field sobriety tests indicated Sipe was under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

•Possession of marijuana. Police said that during a traffic stop at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday on Ellwood Road, the township’s canine officer, Drago, found 23.5 grams of marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia. The operator of the vehicle, Dustin Alan Shirley, 23, of Youngstown was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under a suspended license. He was arraigned and placed in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
