Detroit man released after guilty plea

NEW CASTLE — A Detroit man charged with drug possession pleaded guilty Thursday and was released from jail.

William Ray Gardner III, 22, pleaded guilty to false identification to law enforcement officers and possession of a controlled substance. A third charge of manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, was withdrawn.

District Judge David Rishel accepted the plea in central court. He was sentenced to six months probation and fined $400.

He was released from the Lawrence County jail where he has been held on $50,000 bond since his arrest Aug. 29.
