Friday concerts conclude tomorrow

NEW CASTLE — Aug. 23 will be the final Friday Night Live Concert for 2013.

The event is scheduled for 5:45 to 9 p.m. at the Riverwalk Amphitheater located at the corner of East Washington and East streets.

Performers include opening act Major Minor, followed by Diamond Dance Academy and the PA Martial Arts Academy, as well as live music by The River Saints. The movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark” will follow the concert.

Please remember to bring a lawn chair or sit on the large chair sized rocks available at the amphitheater.  Food vendors will also be available.

A summary of tomorrow’s acts follows.

Major Minors

The Major Minors are a show choir of students ages 9 through 14 from the New Castle, Shenango, Laurel and Neshannock school districts. The group is under the direction of Karmin Dando.

The theme for their summer show is “The Heart of America.”  Their performance will include songs that embody the spirit of our nation, from patriotic to Broadway. A special part of their show is honoring those who have served and are serving in the armed forces. They will also recognize, by name, those in our county who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom from 1962 to the present.

Diamond Dance Academy

The Diamond Dance Academy is a dance studio located in Ellwood City that teaches dance and tumbling education. For the Friday Night Live concert, Diamond Dance will feature both group and solo numbers.

The River Saints

The River Saints will perform a tribute to the ’70s. The nucleus of the band has been together since 1995. They play rock and roll and R&B. They have opened for many national acts, including the Spin Doctors, 38 Special, and Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes.

The Friday night concerts are sponsored in cooperation with Dunkin’ Donuts, Cascade Commons, First Merit Bank, Pizza Joe’s, Hoyt Center for the Arts, Luxenburg, Garbett, Kelly and George, New Castle News, New Castle Downtown Business Association, City of New Castle, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and the Lawrence County Tourist Promotion Agency.
