Gary Church: The perks of a new coffee maker? I’m still exploring

NEW CASTLE — My wife's big Christmas present this year was a Keurig coffee maker.

There might be a small chance that I wanted one, too.

She will use it more than I will, because I drink it only at specified meal times.

My wife may decide to have a cup of tea at 2:11 in the afternoon.

Since I'm on a schedule, I would never do that.

There were a lot of trials and tribulations that I went through when picking out the right pot.

After studying Kuerigs online, I decided to purchase the Vue.

It had a lot of extras that the regular Kuerig did not have.

The only thing missing — you couldn't use the K-cups.

There are 250 different kinds of K-cup coffees, but only around 70 coffee varieties for the Vue.

After unrelenting pressure from my daughter, I took it back and got the regular Kuerig.

I'm having a little trouble finding a coffee flavor I really enjoy.

Some people drink coffee to give them a jolt of energy to keep going.

I don't need that. I'm not going anywhere.

A relaxing cup of coffee after a meal is all I need.

So far, I have seen my wife pour a cup of Celestial Sleepytime herbal tea down the drain, and a Gloria Jean’s Hazelnut coffee variety.

I haven't thrown any away yet, but I have tried varieties that I'll never try again.

They all look so good in those little packets, until you actually drink it.

If you saw a variety called Donut Shop, naturally it would be one of the first ones you would try.

It was so strong, I had some hair fall off my legs.

The Kuerig has not replaced our usual Maxwell House Master Blend coffee we have for breakfast.

I'm sure out of the 250 Kuerig flavors, I'll find something I enjoy.

The rule is, my wife buys the flavors she likes, and I buy the ones I like.

Should you see me running past your house, you'll know I tried the Chocolate Glazed Donut flavor.

Do you talk to yourself when you're alone?

Yes, but I’m basically just thinking out loud.
No, that would be weird.
I don’t know. Next time I’m alone, I’ll ask.
