Photo Gallery, Story: Southpoint celebrates Flag Day

NEW CASTLE — Residents of Southpoint at Jameson took time out Saturday morning to honor the Stars and Stripes.

Kathy Bungard, activities director of the personal care facility located in Jameson Health System’s South Campus, organized the Flag Day Celebration, which began with the reciting of the The Pledge of Allegiance and continued with the singing of the national anthem.

Bungard provided a brief history of the flag, then led the residents — who were each given a hand-held flag to wave — in singing such songs such as “America,” “America the Beautiful” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”

The 30-minute observance, which took place in front of the flag pole outside the building’s main entrance, concluded with a prayer by Bungard.
