NEW CASTLE — Girls soccer

Mohawk falls

The Lady Warriors dropped a 1-0 Section 1-A road contest against Quigley Catholic.

The game was scoreless at the half.

Mohawk is now 6-5-1, 7-6-1.

Lum nets three

Wilmington’s Kyler Lum scored three goals in a 6-1 District 10, Region 1-A road victory over Kennedy Catholic.

Allie Mayes and Anna Hartwell added a goal each for the Lady Greyhounds.  Wilmington (6-1, 6-5) scored its sixth goal on an own goal by the Lady Golden Eagles.

Kyndra Chambers contributed two assists for the Lady Greyhounds. Lum, Mayes and Hartwell added one each.

Anna Miller made four saves for Wilmington.

The Lady Greyhounds led 3-0 at the half.

Boys cross country

Blackwell places first

New Castle’s Trevor Blackwell topped the field against Blackhawk and Hopewell, winning the race in 17:31.

The Red Hurricane won both meets, topping Blackhawk (27-29) and Hopewell (19-36).

Mike Mazzanti was fourth for New Castle in 18:57 and teammate Alex Shepard was fifth in 19:29. Chris Mazzanti took sixth in 19:41 and Corey Niles was 15th in 20:25.

The ’Canes’ Andrew Gonzales won the junior high boys race in 10:51.

Girls cross country

Adamo tops field

New Castle’s Caitlin Adamo rolled to a first-place time of 24:03 in a meet against Blackhawk and Hopewell.

The Lady ’Canes won both meets, knocking off the Lady Cougars (24-33) and the Lady Vikings (18-37).

Rebecca Paul placed second for New Castle in 24:13 and Natalie DeVincentis was seventh in 27:04. Vanessa Turner finished eighth in 27:10 and Gabby Matarazzo was ninth in 27:27.

The Lady ’Canes’ Jessica Hill finished second in the girls junior high race in 12:47.
