Photo Gallery: Annual Wampum Christmas parade

NEW CASTLE — This year’s Wampum Christmas parade was one of special significance for the parade committee members and organizers.

Amid the spray of confetti cannons and candy tossing, committee members took time to recognize a member they lost this year.

Held Saturday afternoon, this 41st annual Wampum Christmas parade was dedicated to former chairwoman, Rose Cody.

Cody, who passed away in October, was recognized with silk flowers handed out to the crowd, and a pause in the procession for a brief recognition of her service.

Family and committee members also showered an emerald green car with confetti.

More than 50 floats took part in the day’s dedication, including the Peanuts gang, Ariel the Little Mermaid and Ursula, students of Studio P Dance and Wampum Hardware CoS.

Local fire companies including Ellwood City, Wayne Township and Bessemer also were on hand to delight children with candy and flashing lights.

Children also were pleased to see The Cat in the Hat, Angry Birds, SpongeBob Squarepants and even The Grinch take to the parade route, passing out treats and interacting with spectators.

The year’s parade concluded with an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to authorize Speaker John Boehner to sue President Obama for allegedly overstepping his legal authority with the way he's handled Obamacare. Good call?

Yes. Obama's been overstepping his authority since day one in office. It's time he pay the piper.
No. The allegations are ridiculous and the law suit is a waste of time and tax payer money.
I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but the suit seems a little extreme.
