NEW CASTLE — Local residents who have served their country received a civilian salute Saturday.

Hundreds turned out downtown to watch the Lawrence County Veterans Council’s annual Veterans Day Parade.

A fireworks burst from Zambelli Internationale signaled the start of the parade, which stepped off from the Columbus Innerbelt, proceeded up Croton Avenue and headed west on East Washington Street. After passing the reviewing stand on Kennedy Square, the parade disbanded back on the Innerbelt.

Among the military and veterans groups represented in the parade were the 1st Battalion 107th Field Artillery headquarters, Veterans of Foreign Wars Neshannock Post 315, New Castle Area Honor Guard, New Castle Marine Corps League, AMVETS Post 281, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 267, American Legion Perry S. Gaston Post 343, Mariners of Pennsylvani and the United States Military Veterans Motorcycle Club.

Robert Walker was the parade marshal, and Thomas E. Lane was the grand marshal.
