Photo Gallery: Ellwood rings in Christmas season with parade

NEW CASTLE — Ellwood City residents welcomed the Christmas season Saturday a parade.

The sidewalks of Lawrence Avenue were crowded with friends, family and children for the annual Home for the Holidays parade.

The Ellwood City Marching Blue Band and Mohawk Warrior Marching Band both performed in the nearly hour-long parade. Also performing were dancers from Studio P, Pam McDonald’s Dance Expressions and Diamond Dance Academy.

First Church of God and Wurtemburg United Methodist Church impressed with their large floats and live Nativity scenes.

Shriners from the Shriners Hospitals for Children stole the show with their parade mini-cars, as they wove through one another and whizzed by spectators.

When asked his favorite part of the afternoon, 11-year-old Dominic Wilson of Ellwood, said “the little cars.”

Following the mini-cars, a long line of fire trucks, ambulances from Noga and Medevac and a large pack of motorcycle riders showered parade-goers with candy.

The parade concluded with a wave from Santa Claus.

Following the parade, children were invited to visit with Santa inside the city’s municipal building.

Poll

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
