Video Highlights, Interviews: Michael Phelps shines again in pool

NEW CASTLE — The 2014 Arena Grand Prix Swimming Series made its fifth stop earlier this month in Charlotte, N.C.

The event took place at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.

New Castle High graduate Lauren Minenok was on hand, and interviewed internationally known swimmers for The News.

Among the Olympians at the event were Conor Dwyer, Allison Schmitt, Katinka Hosszu, 11-time medalist Ryan Lochte and 22-time medalist Michael Phelps.

Phelps earned a victory in the 100-meter fly, his first since coming out of retirement. He talked with Minenok about returning to the sport.

“I have an opportunity to do something I love and something that I enjoy and there’s no point to ever let something like that go past you.”

However, a knee injury kept Lochte out of the pool.

“This is a blessing in disguise and I’ll come back even stronger.”
