Photo Gallery, Story: Clifton Flat hosts annual egg hunt

NEW CASTLE — With three crosses standing outside Clifton Flat Alliance Church on Saturday, there could be no mistaking that it was Easter.

Of courses, hundreds of brightly colored plastic eggs scattered about the grounds told the tale as well.

The church, located at the corner of Berger Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Shenango Township, was having its annual Easter egg hunt, with nearly 50 youngsters taking part.

“I really don’t know how long we’ve been doing it,” Pastor Jarod Mills said. “I used to do it when I was a kid here. So it’s at least been since the ’80s.

Volunteers scattered the eggs – some containing candy and small prizes, others bearing tickets that could be exchanged for larger rewards — around the church for the younger kids in the crowd, as well as on the far side of the fellowship shelter for the older ones.

Moments before the hunt began, kids with bags, buckets and baskets assembled at the entrance to the shelter, with all eyes fixed on a small stuffed lamb tied at the top of the adjacent flagpole. When the lamb dropped, the hunt was on, and the youngsters had both areas picked clean in about four minutes.

After that, it was back to the shelter to crack open the eggs and see what they’d snatched up and claim their prizes.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

Yes. All evidence points that way.
No. Everyone is so quick to point fingers, but there's not enough evidence to support claims of Russian guilt.
I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
