NEW CASTLE —
Cassidy Marett paced the Lady Greyhounds with 20 assists, 16 digs and seven points in a 25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 25-15 nonregion road win over Laurel.
“I’m not sure how we won tonight,” Wilmington coach Amber Marett said. “Hats off to Laurel, they outplayed us in every aspect of the game.
“Their serving game was extremely aggressive and we were scrambling to just keep the ball in play. The only way we won was heart and hustle.”
Lexi Ligo scooped up 19 digs for Wilmington (3-2, 4-3) and Abby Sotter contributed 14 points, 10 kills, seven digs and three aces. Stephanie Parker notched 13 points, six digs and three kills for the victors, and Katherine Clark added five digs.
Tessa Sikora registered five blocks and three kills, while Saloma Byler chipped in with four blocks and three kills.
Mackenzie Mraz produced nine points, eight kills and five aces for the Lady Spartans (9-2), while Leah Telesz delivered nine points, four kills and four aces.
Allie Collier was next with eight kills and three blocks for the hosts and Makayla Dupont chipped in with 15 assists. Kristan Fedrizzi scooped up 14 digs, Morgan Ritchie tallied nine assists and Rachael Baker slammed four kills.
“It’s not the best we’ve ever played and it’s not the worst we’ve ever played,” Laurel coach Nikki Downing said. “I’m glad we had the chance to get the cobwebs out after homecoming weekend.
“Wilmington is a solid team. We found some things we have to work on and hopefully we’ll get them corrected.”
The Lady Greyhounds won the JV match as well, 28-26, 26-24.
Alana Romeo served up nine points for Wilmington and Jamie Thompson delivered five points and 14 assists. Amanda Lewis slammed five kills.
Makenna Natale supplied five kills, six points and three aces for Laurel and Morgan Ritchie added 12 assists five points and three aces.
Callie Ritchie provided five points, four aces, four kills and four blocks.
