Ethan Wilson and Lizzie Manickas dominated the action Saturday in the Tri-County Cross Country Championship. Laurel High’s Wilson and Neshannock’s Manickas captured the boys and girls races, respectively, in the event. The annual event was held at Neshannock.

Photos, Video: Wilmington vs Shenango in girls volleyball
The visiting Lady Greyhounds outlasted Shenango in nonregion action, 29-27, 25-21, 16-25, 26-24. Cassidy Marett paced Wilmington (4-2, 6-3) with 13 points, six kills, 41 assists and 20 digs, while Tessa Sikora chipped in with five points, 22 kills, six blocks and five digs.

The Neshannock High girls tennis team’s bid for a WPIAL playoff berth came to an end yesterday. Riverside held off the Lady Lancers for a 3-2 Section 2-AA victory in the season finale. The loss eliminated Neshannock from playoff contention.

High School Golf: Neshannock boys earn spot in playoffs
The Neshannock High boys golf team is going back to the WPIAL playoffs. Matt Cioffi fired a 36, lifting the Lancers to a 194-204 Section 5, Division 2 victory over Laurel at Castle Hills Golf Course. Neshannock is the two-time defending WPIAL Class AA champion.

The Laurel High girls volleyball team kept pace in the section standings last night. The Lady Spartans knocked off Neshannock in a WPIAL Section 3-A home match, 25-20, 25-16, 16-25, 25-20.
Laurel (8-1 section, 10-2 overall) trails only section-leading Shenango (8-0, 10-1). -

Neshannock came up a bit short yesterday. The Lady Lancers dropped all three singles matches in a 3-2 WPIAL Section 2-AA match at Pearson Park in the Coaches vs. Cancer Pink-Out event. “It was just a tough match,” Lady Lancers coach Chuck Dess said. “I thought we competed really hard; they’re a veteran team.

The Wilmington High boys soccer team got bumped from the ranks of the unbeaten yesterday. Slippery Rock knocked off visiting Wilmington in a District 10, Region 2-AA matchup, 3-1.
