NEW CASTLE —
Neshannock High cross country runner Lizzie Manickas set the pace Saturday.
Manickas won the girls race at the Blue Devil Invitational in 19:31.6. She won the race by seven seconds.
The event, which was hosted by Sharpsville High School, was held at Buhl Park.
Manickas was the lone runner for the Lady Lancers.
Laurel standouts Ethan Wilson and Emily Maxwell continued to excel.
Wilson placed second in the boys race and Maxwell finished third in the girls event.
Wilson turned in a time of 16:26 as the Spartans’ boys team took 11th in the team standings. Eddie Cracraft was next for Laurel in 52nd in 18:03.8 and Lucas Switzer was 83rd in 18:30.5. Robert Schrantz (112th, 19:07.4) and Bryan Taylor (121st, 19:14.7) completed Laurel’s top five.
Maxwell recorded a time of 19:50.6 in the girls race as the Lady Spartans’ team finished fourth in the standings. Alison Filer (22nd, 21:00.2), Brooke Dicks (44th, 21:44.4); Kristin Dicks (49th, 21:58.3) and Kacee Caughey (69th (22:24.5) also competed for Laurel.
New Castle’s Trevor Blackwell finished fifth overall in 16:43.5 and Michael Mazzanti placed 32nd in 17:37.5. Chris Mazzanti was 115th in 19:11.3, Corey Niles took 128th in 19:25.0 and Ryan Abraham was 165th in 20:10.1.
Andrea Lansdowne placed 18th for New Castle in 21:02.3 and Caitlin Adamo was 73rd in 22:56.3. Rebecca Paul (89th, 23:15.6), Rachel McNickle (121st, 24:37.6) and Vanessa Turner (143rd, 25:52.3) also participated for the Lady ’Canes.
Robbie Kroner placed 35th for Neshannock in 17:40.5 and teammate Matt Turner was 61st in 18:14.5. Ron Calvert (96th, 18:48.1), Austin Moose (119th, 19:17.7) and Dean Lutz (184th, 20:40) followed.
Rikki Brumbaugh paced Wilmington’s girls team to a 14th-place finish in the team standings. Brumbaugh finished sixth in a time of 20:31.
Allison Baldwin (25th, 21:08) and Hannah Winters (31st, 21:22) followed with the Lady Greyhounds. Hannah Drake (56th, 22:07) and Kate Robb (99th, 23:12) rounded out the top five for Wilmington.
Wilmington’s boys team placed 20th overall. Jared Thomas was 78th for the Greyhounds in 18:28 and Calvin Gealy was next in 84th (18:31). Brett Whitty (103rd, 18:49), Zach Paden (118th, 19:10) and Ryan Davis (156th, 19:42) also competed for Wilmington.
Wilmington’s Lexi Brumbaugh won the junior high girls race in 10:06. Laurel’s Cassie Patterson was third, but no time was provided.
The Greyhounds’ Jake Burdett was 59th in the junior high race in 10:21.

A promising season came to a sour end for the Wilmington High boys soccer team last night. The Greyhounds mustered no offense and allowed two second-half goals in a 2-0 District 10, Class AA quarterfinal-round loss to Saegertown at General McLane High School.

Hurricane Sandy got the best of the playoff action Monday night. District 10 and WPIAL postseason games were rescheduled as the storm began to unleash its fury. The Wilmington High boys District 10, Class AA quarterfinal-round soccer matchup against Saegertown was moved to 5 p.m. Wednesday at General McLane.
