NEW CASTLE —
Wilmington rallied in the second half for a 4-3 District 10, Region 2-AA road win over Sharon.
The Greyhounds trailed 2-1 at the break. Matt Balczon netted the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining in regulation.
“We pulled out a gutty win,” Wilmington coach Christian Davoli said. “Balczon was moving up the right sideline and he made a perfect chipping shot to the opposite post. He tucked it right in the corner; it was perfect.”
Jon Clark added two goals for the Greyhounds (9-1, 13-1) and their other tally was on an own goal by Sharon.
Marc Delio, Ryan Dilullo and Andrew Sciuto recorded one assist each for Wilmington.
Ian Behm made nine saves in goal for the Greyhounds.
Blackwell places 32nd
New Castle’s Trevor Blackwell placed 32nd in the boys race in the Tri-State Invitational. The race was held at Cooper’s Lake.
Blackwell posted a time of 16:56. The Red Hurricane placed 35th in the team standings with 973 points.
Mike Mazzanti placed 157th for the Red Hurricane in 18:07 and teammate Corey Niles was 234th in 18:45. Alex Shepard was 254th in 18:46 and Ricky Rossi claimed 314th in 19:35.
Shenango’s David Waldschmidt finished 187th in 18:24. The Wildcats placed 47th in the team standings with 1,331 points. Andy McCann finished 254th for Shenango in 18:57, Kyle Campbell was 271st in 19:09 Zach Matuch captured 307th in 19:32 and Nicco Pagley was 312th in 19:34.
On the girls side, Shenango finished 37th in the team standings (1,026 points) and New Castle was 47th (1,340 points).
Katie Bruce paced the Lady Wildcats, finishing 115th in 21:21. Rachel Reamer (169th, 21:53), Courtney Fontana (237th, 22:44), Elizabeth Salem (252nd, 22:57) and Carly Danielson (253rd, 22:58) completed Shenango’s top five runners.
Andrea Lansdowne took 95th place for the Lady ’Canes in 21:08 and Caitlin Adamo was 216th in 22:31. Rebecca Paul (291st, 23:37), Rachel McNickle (363rd, 25:53) and Gabby Matarazzo (375th, 26:34) also participated for New Castle.
