Girls Soccer: Wilmington girls shut out West Middlesex

NEW CASTLE — The Wilmington High girls soccer team was locked in last night.

The Lady Greyhounds didn’t allow a shot in a 4-0 victory at home against West Middlesex in District 10, Region 1-A action.

“That’s pretty much what we’re averaging in the region,” Wilmington coach Ben Bailey said. “We controlled the ball. The girls kept good position and made good decisions.”

The win sets up a pivotal matchup tomorrow for Wilmington (7-1 region, 7-6 overall) on the road against Mercer (7-0-1, 10-4-1). It’s a game that could decide the winner of the region. The Lady Mustangs won at Wilmington earlier in the month, 1-0.

“It’s Mercer’s senior night and we’re looking forward to it,” Bailey said. “They beat us once, so confidence should be high for them.”

Kyndra Chambers scored two goals to lead the dominating performance. Mykelin Saterlee gave the team a 2-0 lead at halftime. Anna Hartwell contributed a goal and an assist. Ling Er Williams, Kyler Lum and Allie Mayes chipped in with one assist each.

“They played very well tonight,” Bailey said “It was a great gear-up for Mercer on Thursday.”
