The visiting Lady Greyhounds outlasted Shenango in nonregion action, 29-27, 25-21, 16-25, 26-24.
Cassidy Marett paced Wilmington (4-2, 6-3) with 13 points, six kills, 41 assists and 20 digs, while Tessa Sikora chipped in with five points, 22 kills, six blocks and five digs.
Lexi Ligo supplied eight points and 20 digs. Stephanie Parker provided five points, nine kills and 17 digs. Katherine Clark collected four points and nine digs for the victors and Abby Sotter added three points, 15 kills and nine digs.
“It was an exciting match,” Lady Greyhounds coach Amber Marett said. “Both teams played well and it was quite the battle.
“Shenango has a great team and I was glad to see my girls step up to the challenge and finally play hard. They pushed us every step of the way and we responded well. It could have gone either way so I was really proud of the girls.”
Jade Esposito led the Lady Wildcats (10-2) with 18 digs and Amanda Herb was next with nine blocks. Katie Lacey chipped in with nine kills.
“I’m proud of how the girls worked through things and kept the match close,” first-year Shenango coach Angela Heagy said. “But they still need to improve.
“Wilmington is a good team. They would definitely be among the top three teams if they were in our section.”
Shenango won the JV match, 25-17, 25-19.
Liz Quahliero recorded five kills for the Lady Wildcats and Sarah Herb added 15 assists.
Rachel Vernon recorded five points, three kills and 11 digs for Wilmington and Jamie Thompson added seven assists and five digs.
