NEW CASTLE —
Wilmington High’s girls soccer team continues to power its way through District 10 Region 1-A.
The Lady Greyhounds rolled to a 4-1 win at West Middlesex yesterday.
“We’re getting better day by day. We’re a young team with 10 freshmen,” Wilmington coach Ben Bailey said. “We’re fighting through some injuries now, but they’re getting better every time they play.”
Kyler Lum led Wilmington (4-0 region, 4-4 overall) with two goals and an assist. Anna Hartwell tallied a pair of goals as well. Madison Hufnagel had an assist. Anna Miller picked up the win in goal.
“The region games seem to be going better than the nonregion ones,” Bailey said.
Lum, the region’s MVP last year as a sophomore, leads the Lady ’Hounds with 13 goals.
“She has picked up her goal scoring the last couple games,” Bailey said. “She’s helping to lead our young team.”
Wilmington is the two-time defending D-10 champ. It hopes to capture the region championship and contend for another district title this year.
“That’s the goal. We have six more region games left, though,” Bailey said. “We graduated our entire offense last year. We only have three seniors, but we’re getting better each game.”
The Lady ’Hounds wrap up the first half of region play Tuesday at second-place Mercer.
