NEW CASTLE — Union competes

Tommy Thompson placed 22nd for the Scotties in a meet against Beaver, South Side Beaver and Beaver Falls.

Union had just four runners compete and forfeited against the competition.

Thompson posted a time of 22:55.7. Jon Noble was next for the Scotties in 31st place (26:47.3) and Zayne Strobel was 33rd in 32:50.5.

’Canes sweep

New Castle’s Trevor Blackwell posted a win against Montour and Central Valley.

Blackwell took the race in 17:47.

New Castle beat Montour (19-40) and Central Valley (26-29).

Mike Mazzanti was third in 19:18 for the Red Hurricane and Corey Niles seventh in 20:56. Ricky Rossi placed ninth 21:25 and Ethan Greene followed in 10th in 21:51.

There was no junior high race.

Wilson sets pace

Laurel’s Ethan Wilson won the race against Mohawk and Riverside, posting a time of 17:11.4.

The Spartans topped Mohawk (15-50) and the Panthers (23-33).

Clint Glenn placed third for Laurel in 18:21 and Eddie Cracraft was next in 18:23. Robert Schrantz was seventh in 19:06 and Lucas Switzer was eighth in 19:15.

Sam Whippo finished 14th for Mohawk in 20:00 and teammate Jakob Hobel was 17th in 20:44. Andrew Henley (19th, 20:59), Matt Carran (23rd, 22:12) and Dakota Lee (25th, 22:50) participated for the Warriors.

Mohawk’s Matt Rudesill finished eighth in the junior high race in 13:19 and Laurel’s Chris Niles was 14th in 13:33.

Girls cross country

Manickas earns win


Neshannock’s Lizzie Manickas placed first in a meet against Ellwood and Shenango.

Manickas recorded a time of 22:05.

The Lady Wildcats won a pair, defeating Ellwood City (15-50), and the Lady Lancers in a forfeit. The Lady Wolverines topped Neshannock in a forfeit.

Katie Bruce placed second for Shenango in 23:37 and Rachel Reamer was third in 24:35. Courtney Fontana took fourth in 24:59, Elizabeth Salem was fifth in 25:11 and Ashley Presnar was sixth in 25:40.

Mallory Angelucci led the Lady Wolverines with a 13th-place finish in 33:11 and Paige Mason took 14th in 34:52. Janelle Fox was 15th in 34:54.

Shenango’s Brooke-Ellynne Waters won the race in 12:23 and Neshannock’s Elaina McNatt was second in 13:37. Ellwood City’s Mauria Wiley was eighth in 15:58.
