NEW CASTLE —
The Wilmington High girls volleyball team closed the season in style last night.
Cassidy Marett rolled up 14 points, six aces, six kills, 11 assists and three digs in the Lady Greyhounds’ 25-9, 25-12, 25-11 District 10, Region 3-AA road win over Sharon.
“The girls finished playing as a team and serving strong,” Wilmington coach Amber Marett said. “It was a good season overall.
“We will miss our seniors but we have a good core group returning to build on for next year.”
Katherine Clark collected 12 markers and five digs for the Lady Greyhounds (7-5 region, 10-6 overall) and Stephanie Parker provided seven points, four kills and six digs. Abby Sotter supplied seven points, three kills and six digs.
Saloma Byler followed with six points and Lexi Ligo scooped up seven digs. Tessa Sikora served up four points with seven kills.
Wilmington’s JV team posted a 25-18, 25-8 win.
Rachel Vernon, Amanda Lewis and Jamie Thompson tallied seven points apiece for the Lady Greyhounds. Thompson added six assists and nine digs. Lewis slammed four kills.
Alana Romeo notched seven digs for the winners.

A promising season came to a sour end for the Wilmington High boys soccer team last night. The Greyhounds mustered no offense and allowed two second-half goals in a 2-0 District 10, Class AA quarterfinal-round loss to Saegertown at General McLane High School.

Hurricane Sandy: Storm postpones playoff action
Hurricane Sandy got the best of the playoff action Monday night. District 10 and WPIAL postseason games were rescheduled as the storm began to unleash its fury. The Wilmington High boys District 10, Class AA quarterfinal-round soccer matchup against Saegertown was moved to 5 p.m. Wednesday at General McLane.

The Wilmington High girls cross country team didn’t let the conditions bother them Saturday. The squad just pushed through and qualified for the PIAA Championships.
