Two arrested after incident at Ellwood bar
Two men who allegedly pointed a gun at other people over the weekend have been jailed on various charges. Laxavier Cordarius Crumb, 24, of 800 Zelienople Road, Ellwood City, and John Dakota Assalone, 21, reported to be homeless, were arrested at a bar in the 200 block of North Street in Ellwood City.

Merchant defrauded of phones
A Bessemer man is facing charges for allegedly selling four phones to a store owner, but the boxes were empty. Donald P. Freeman III, 35, of 1419 E. Poland Ave., is charged with theft by deception in connection with the incident.

Blaze causes major damage to duplex
The state police fire marshal was called Tuesday to investigate a blaze in an Ellwood City duplex. Crews were called to 120 Spring Ave. just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. They remained at the scene until 4:30 p.m.

Man charged with arson after his house burns
A Taylor Township man who allegedly doused his home with gasoline faces multiple charges of arson and assault. Jason P. Merlini, 39, of 309 Warner Alley was charged with six counts of arson, five counts of aggravated assault including one for domestic violence, one count of reckless burning and five counts of recklessly endangering another person.

‘Carelessness’ caused Overlook fire
The state fire marshal has determined a blaze at the Overlook Health and Rehabilitation Center was caused by carelessness. Trooper David Jungling issued his report Friday and said the blaze was determined to have been caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials.

Police called to Halco Drive disturbance
An apparently intoxicated Halco Drive man drew a crowd Thursday night. New Castle police were called about 6:30 p.m. and found a 19-year-old man cutting his face and head with the razor blade of a utility knife.

Two injured in Mill Street, Taylor accidents
Two people were injured in a pair of accidents Thursday, New Castle police reported. One involved a car that went over an embankment off West Pittsburg Road in Taylor Township around noon.

Drug charges filed after raid
Police have charged four people arrested during a drug raid Wednesday in Union Township. Members of the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force executed a sealed search warrant at 27 Spring St. All four suspects live at that address, according to court records.
