    A North Hill man was injured when he was hit by a car on Park Avenue. New Castle police said William Zeiger, 69, of 510 Reis St. was taken to Jameson Hospital with a cut on the back of his head following the incident that happened just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

  • police.jpg Cyclist suffered ‘major’ injuries

    A motorcyclist whose bike crashed on Highland Avenue Tuesday night suffered major injuries, New Castle police reported. Steven G. Addy, 62, of 135 E. Hillcrest Ave., was attempting to round a downhill curve in the area of Stewart Place and Grant Street around 7:45 p.m. when his left running board hit the road, according to police.

    The first day reaped success for the New Castle Police Department’s new street crimes unit. Police Chief Bobby Salem said the team effort Monday resulted in the arrest of two men on gun and drug charges and the arrest of a third man for an alleged robbery.

    A Croton man was jailed after an incident involving a gun. New Castle police said Joseph R. Phillips, 19, of 735 Croton Ave., fought them as they arrested him.

    A South Side man arrested after allegedly firing shots in the Big Run projects is free on bail. New Castle police arrested 34-year-old Robert Brown of 415 Lyndal St. in connection with the gunfire around 3 a.m. Friday.

    A Perry Township woman was hospitalized Friday morning after a fire broke out at her home on Portersville Road. Brian Partridge, assistant chief of the Perry fire department, said the woman was taken by ambulance to Ellwood City Hospital, then transferred to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
