NEW CASTLE —
A South Side man is wanted for allegedly stealing a gun from someone who had given him a ride.
New Castle police have charged Samuel Lee Lowry III, 30, of 1112 S. Jefferson St., in connection with the incident, which the victim said occurred around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A man told police he had given Lowry a ride to Milton Street and his .40-caliber Glock was on the front seat when Lowry got in. He said when he dropped Lowry off, he saw him walk away quickly, and the driver noticed his gun was gone.
Police did a background check on Lowry and learned he had pleaded guilty to a felony crime and served a state prison sentence, which prohibits him from owning or carrying a firearm.
They have charged him with theft, receiving stolen property, illegal possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Lowry also is wanted on warrants in connection with a robbery that occurred Dec. 28 when he allegedly stole $20 from a man he was visiting on North Beaver Street. He also is wanted on a trespassing charge and a theft and illegal gun possession charge in mid-January.
Anyone who knows of Lowry’s whereabouts is asked to contact the city police at (724) 656-3570.
