Police arrest South Side burglar suspects

NEW CASTLE — A South Side man and a male juvenile are facing charges for allegedly trying to break into two houses.

New Castle police reported the incidents occurred around lunchtime Tuesday.

Alvin Larica Perkins Jr., 19, of 16 W. Reynolds St., is charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit burglary, corruption of minors and criminal mischief.

A juvenile petition is to be filed against the youth.

The two allegedly were seen trying to break into a house in the 700 block of Neal Street around 11:35 a.m., then a house in the 500 block of East Lutton Street just after noon.

A woman reported to police a window at the Neal Street house had just been broken and she didn’t know if anyone was inside.

Police determined a rock had been thrown through the window, and they found footprints in the grass that led to a fence.

While they were investigating, officers received a report of another burglary in progress, where Cunningham Avenue residents said they had seen two males break the window of the Lutton Street house.

Police found one of the suspects in a backyard on Lutton Street, chased and caught him. He was identified as Perkins, they said. Police then found the juvenile and arrested him.

Perkins was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie and is being held in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
