NEW CASTLE —
A man who ran from a city traffic stop is now wanted on gun and drug charges.
New Castle police allege that Kenneth Stephone Hardret, 23, of 1706 Highland Ave., Apt. 3, dropped a gun on the ground when he got out of the car.
Aided by a drug-sniffing dog, police said they found several “rocks” of suspected crack cocaine weighing 25.3 grams and 11.8 grams of suspected brown heroin on the ground in the pathway where Hardret fled. They said the suspected heroin, inside a plastic bag, did not test positive, and is believed to be counterfeit.
According to reports, officers attempted to stop a gray sedan traveling without headlights on Grant Street at 4:15 a.m. on March 5. Police said the car turned onto Lowry Street and a man, later identified as Hardret, got out and ran toward Westview Terrace.
The police said they saw a black and silver 9 mm semi-automatic handgun fall onto the sidewalk as the man got out of the car. The gun was loaded, officers said.
Two other men in the car were detained at gunpoint, police said, and told to keep their hands outside the windows. The two were searched then released, and the car was towed.
Union Township officers assisted the police and a canine in the search for the third man.
Police learned Hardret’s identity from the other vehicle occupants, and that he was wanted on warrants.
Officers charged him with illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a gun without a license, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts of possession of cocaine and heroin or a counterfeit, and flight to avoid apprehension.
District Judge Melissa A. Amodie has issued a warrant for Hardret’s arrest.

New Castle police are investigating a robbery on the South Side. A 22-year-old woman told police she had been walking in the alley between Hamilton Street and Pennsylvania Avenue around 3:30 a.m. May 8 when someone grabbed her from behind and punched her numerous times in the left side of her face.

Man reports being robbed on East Side
New Castle police are investigating a report of robbery on Arlington Avenue. A 24-year-old man told police he had been in the 800 block, walking to a friend’s house, around 12:50 a.m. Saturday, when he was jumped by a man who stole his wallet and cell phone.

Men riding four-wheelers help catch burglar suspects
Two men on four-wheelers helped New Castle police catch two Remacor burglary suspects. Brian John Scott, 26, and Charles John Mulroy II, 32, both of New Galilee, are accused of breaking in through a hole in Remacor’s fence to steal about 200 feet of wiring, phone line and pipe around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

Police arrest South Side burglar suspects
A South Side man and a male juvenile are facing charges for allegedly trying to break into two houses. New Castle police reported the incidents occurred around lunchtime Tuesday.
