Man charged with sexual assault of girl

NEW CASTLE — A Scott Township man has been charged by state police with multiple counts of sexual assault on a 13-year-old.

Ivan Carl Schaefer, 39, of 3411 Perry Highway, is charged with two counts each of statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, disseminating obscene and other sexual materials to a minor, corruption of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor, sexual abuse of children (child pornography), indecent assault and one count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

He was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Scott McGrath and jailed on $100,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 8.

State police said Schaefer was arrested Thursday for failing to register with state police and to update his Megan’s Law information he was staying at a home in Wilmington Township. Police said he had lived there from Feb. 14 to March 16.

While there, police said, the man entered into a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old and they engaged in sexual activities on more than one occasion.

Police said when the victim’s mother became aware of what was going on, she evicted Schaefer, but he remained in contact with the teen via an iPod and the house phone.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
