On the Record: A listing of today’s police and district judge reports

NEW CASTLE — Police

STATE


•Criminal mischief. Someone threw an unknown object and broke a kitchen window in the 2900 block of Wampum Road in New Beaver Borough between March 5 and 7.

•Accident. Police said Maria L. Beckman, 42, of New Castle was driving west on New Butler Road in Shenango Township around 8:30 p.m. March 8 and struck a deer crossing the road. She was not injured.

•Burglary. Cash and jewelry were taken from a residence on Houston Road, Little Beaver Township, between 7:45 a.m. and 7:40 p.m. Thursday.

•Burglary. A computer, television, scanner with head sets and various other items were reported stolen from a home on Copper Road in Slippery Rock Township between March 11 and March 13.

•Accident. Police said Lucinda S. Patrick, 48, of Cabot was driving on Route 356 in Butler County around 12:3 a.m. Saturday when she hit the rear of a car driven by Abram C. Smith, 64, of New Castle. Patrick was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

•Accident. Police said Rachel A. Booker, 27, of New Castle was driving in the left lane of Route 376 in Pulaski Township around 9:25 p.m. Monday when she lost control of her car. Police said weather conditions were a factor. Booker was not wearing a seatbelt. She was treated at Jameson Hospital.

New Castle police charged the following people:

•Ashton Jahfar Johnson, 26, of New Castle, manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, intent to possess a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Jeffrey Alan Pennington, 48, of Volant, public drunkenness and similar misconduct.

•Robert Wayne Hoon, 30, of New Castle, possession of marijuana and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Reginald Anderson Murphy, 25, of New Castle, robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, firearm not to be carried without a license and recklessly endangering another person.

•Kevin D. Ashby, 37, of New Castle, simple assault and harassment.

New Castle's code enforcement department charged the following:

•Alizabeth N. Rosa, of Lorain, Ohio, prohibited use violation and sanitation of exterior property area violation.

•Alcide Rosa II, of Lorain, Ohio, prohibited use violation and sanitation of exterior property area violation.

Ellwood City police have charged the following:

•James Hill, 22, of Ellwood City, two counts of simple assault and one count of harassment.

•Amanda Lee Gilmore, 20, of Ellwood City, two counts of simple assault and one count of harassment.

•Derek Alan Godown, 18, of Cranberry Township, Pa., purchase of an alcoholic beverage by a minor.

•Cody James Steigerwald, 18, of Fombell, purchase of an alcoholic beverage by a minor.

State police have charged the following:

•Jesse R. Samsa, 40, of Ellwood City, criminal mischief, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and escape.

•Miranda J. Smith, 28, of Ellwood City, hindering apprehension or prosecution and conspiracy.

•Richard Ralph Cotelesse Jr., 31, of New Castle, charged by Union Township police with three counts each of retail theft and receiving stolen property and one count of criminal mischief.

•Douglas Henry Wachowiak, 34, of Grove City, charged by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission with unlawful driving of a motor vehicle on land without permission.

SCOTT A. MCGRATH

•Jesse D. Boak, 20, of New Castle, charged by Neshannock Township police with driving under the influence, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, disregarding traffic lane and driving with no headlights.

    A Taylor Township man who allegedly doused his home with gasoline faces multiple charges of arson and assault. Jason P. Merlini, 39, of 309 Warner Alley was charged with six counts of arson, five counts of aggravated assault including one for domestic violence, one count of reckless burning and five counts of recklessly endangering another person.

    The state fire marshal has determined a blaze at the Overlook Health and Rehabilitation Center was caused by carelessness. Trooper David Jungling issued his report Friday and said the blaze was determined to have been caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials.

  • Police called to Halco Drive disturbance

    An apparently intoxicated Halco Drive man drew a crowd Thursday night. New Castle police were called about 6:30 p.m. and found a 19-year-old man cutting his face and head with the razor blade of a utility knife.

    Two people were injured in a pair of accidents Thursday, New Castle police reported. One involved a car that went over an embankment off West Pittsburg Road in Taylor Township around noon.

  • police.jpg Drug charges filed after raid

    Police have charged four people arrested during a drug raid Wednesday in Union Township. Members of the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force executed a sealed search warrant at 27 Spring St. All four suspects live at that address, according to court records.

  • police.jpg North Hill man hospitalized after crash

    A New Castle man who hit a tree in Pulaski Township has been admitted to St. Elizabeth Health Center. According to Pulaski Township police, Adam Welsh, 36, of 202 E. Fairmont Ave., was eastbound on Route 422 about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when his pickup truck left the road.

  • East Side garage ‘total loss’ in fire

    The New Castle police department fire investigator was called for a blaze at a garage. The three-bay garage at 626 Superior St. was a total loss, according to New Castle firefighters, who were called about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday. They remained at the scene until nearly 3 a.m.

  • Barletto.jpg Hearings in fatal crashes are postponed

    A hearing for the woman accused of striking a police cruiser and killing a Shenango Township officer has been rescheduled. Kylee Gwen Barletto, 26, of 693 Hoover Road, will face a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. June 6. It had been scheduled for Thursday morning.

  • Shenango man accused of breaking into car

    A Shenango man was arrested after he allegedly was caught breaking into a car on New Castle’s East Side. New Castle police charged Jessie Lauderbaugh, 23, of Highview Drive with fleeing from police, theft from a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct and loitering and prowling at night.
