Pedestrian’s death ruled suicide

NEW CASTLE — The death of a pedestrian on Interstate 376 in Pulaski Township Friday morning has been ruled a suicide.

State police said David William Nye, 46, of New Brighton was struck by an eastbound truck around 5:30 a.m., approximately a half-mile east of Route 208.

Police said Nye, who was staying at a location on Old Pulaski Road, walked through the woods to I-376, then stood in front of the truck.

The driver, who did not see Nye in time because it was dark, swerved and attempted to miss him, but struck him with the front bumper.

Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga ruled the death a suicide and pronounced him dead at the scene at 6:25 a.m.

The eastbound side of the highway was closed for a few hours while the investigation was conducted.
