Police probe alleged assault of student

NEW CASTLE — Township police are investigating a possible assault of a Neshannock High School student.

Lt. John Rand, officer in charge, said a female student allegedly was assaulted by other students on an overnight bus trip to New York City last weekend. The bus, which had “50 to 60 kids,” was on its return trip to Neshannock, he said.

Rand said police began the investigation after they were contacted by the girl’s mother.

“We’ve pretty much contacted everyone involved,” Rand said, adding police are trying to see who were the “participants and who were witnesses.”

“If we do see there are any violations, they’ll be charged.”

The department also is looking into where on the trip the alleged incident occurred.

“We handled it here because all the participants are here.”

He said he hopes to close the investigation by next week.

An attempt yesterday to reach Dr. Mary Todora, Neshannock schools’ superintendent, was unsuccessful.
