•Bench warrant. Police arrested Justin Gebhardt, 26, of 1790 W. Lawrence Ave. at 5:47 p.m. Aug. 19 at the corner of Bell Avenue and Sixth Street. Gebhardt was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant issued by Lawrence County common pleas court.

•Arrest. Police arrested Derek Hlebinsky, 28, and Scott Lapenta, 27, both of 194 Anthony St., Wampum, and Shanna Glover, 28, of 275 Fairlane Blvd., New Galilee, on various charges at 10:17 p.m. Aug. 15 in the 400 block of Loop Street. Police said Glover was arrested on a charge of public drunkenness. Lapenta was sought by authorities on an outstanding bench warrant. The New Castle police department in an investigation with borough police arrested Hlebinsky on a warrant involving the theft of jewelry from a Fifth Avenue residence.

•Thefts from motor vehicles. Three vehicles parked at a Circle Way business were entered between Aug. 20 and Aug. 21. Change and CDs were taken from one vehicle. It is unknown if items were taken from the other vehicles.

•Theft from motor vehicle. A 13th Street resident said a global positioning system unit was removed from his vehicle between Aug. 16 and Aug. 17. The resident said two other vehicles were rummaged through.

•Criminal mischief. A Summit Avenue resident reported that sometime overnight Friday his vehicle was entered and the center console damaged. No items were reported missing.

•Public drunkenness. Police said Richard Thomas Hogue, 24, of 1708 Moravia St., New Castle, was found passed out at 12:08 a.m. Aug. 15 in front of the borough municipal building. Hogue was placed in a holding cell until he became sober, police said.

•Public drunkenness. Police said Shawn Knechtel, 40, of 225 Wampum Ave. was arrested on charges of public drunkenness at 1:51 a.m. Aug. 20 at the corner of Lawrence Avenue and Fourth Street. Police said Knechtel caused a disturbance and refused to leave the area.

•Arrest. Jamie McGuire, 21, of 315 Franklin Ave. was charged with simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after an incident in the 200 block of Pittsburgh Circle at 6:22 p.m. Aug. 22. McGuire’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

•Public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Police responded to reports Monday that two individuals were in the 400 block of Loop Street attempting to purchase drugs. Upon arrival, police located Dominic DeGennaro, 46, of 150 12th St. Extension, and John Mesko, 38, of 195 Windy Drive. Police said the men appeared intoxicated. They were arrested and charged at 2:44 a.m.


•Criminal mischief. An unknown person cut the liner of a swimming pool, located at a Union Township home. The damage was discovered Saturday.

•Accident. A one-car accident occurred at 10 a.m. Aug. 9 on Route 422, south of Newell Avenue. Police said Richard Heasley, 76, of Butler was driving his 2007 Chevrolet Malibu in the left lane, while heading west on Route 422 . The vehicle struck a tire and rim that were in the middle of the lane. Neither Heasley nor his passenger, Marilyn E. Fritz, 69, of Butler, were injured.

•Criminal mischief. An unknown person damaged a mailbox on Mud Bridge Road, Enon Valley. The incident took place between 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and 4 p.m. Aug. 20.

•Theft. An Edinburg woman left her purse at a Union Township restaurant between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. When she returned, her purse, valued at $35, was missing.

•Theft. Someone removed $360 from the home of a Fowler Lane, Union Township, resident between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Friday.

•Theft of a motor vehicle. Someone took a 1998 Harley-Davidson Wide Glide motorcycle belonging to a Mercer man from a carport at Edgewood Apartments, New Wilmington, between 8 and 11 p.m. Saturday.

•Theft/criminal mischief. Someone took a 6-by-8-foot blue vinyl tarp and slashed an outdoor swing cushion at a Rose Point Road, Slippery Rock Township, home between 5 p.m. Aug. 18 and 5 a.m. Aug. 19. The tarp was valued at $5, and damage to the cushion was set at $20.

•Burglary. Someone broke into the home of a Squaw Run Road, Wayne Township, resident between 2:45 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Police did not say if anything was missing.

•Assault. Police said a man who lives on Old Butler Road, Slippery Rock Township, confronted a person he found prowling near his home at 1:56 a.m. Tuesday, and an altercation ensued. The prowler pushed the resident against the suspect’s vehicle, shattering a window and causing the victim to sustain a small cut on his left arm. The prowler then fled the scene. State police were assisted by officers from Shenango Township. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at (724) 598-2211.

•Accident. Police said Dana M. Helsel, 24, of Beaver was eastbound on Old Princeton Road at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier LS when she pulled from a stop sign at the intersection of Route 388 and struck the side of a 2005 GMC Envoy operated by Mark A. Delo, 39, of New Castle, who was southbound on Route 388. Delo’s vehicle traveled off the west side of the road and came to rest in a field about 75 yards south of the intersection. Helsel was able to proceed through the intersection and pull her car off the road. No injuries were reported. Helsel was charged with a stop sign violation.

•Disorderly conduct. A teenager was observed leaving tire tracks with his Ford F-250 pickup in the Mohawk High parking lot at 5:57 p.m. Aug. 17.

•Harassment. Police reported that Keith Aven, 45, of Harlansburg Road struck a New Castle woman on the front of her head, pushed her down and then held her down. The event reportedly took place at 4 a.m. yesterday along Route 108, Hickory Township.

•Loitering and prowling. A male teenager attempted to climb up the side of an Elm Street house in Bessemer at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

•Harassment. Police said charges were filed against Josey Campbell of 147 Frederick Mobile Home Park for reportedly harassing a New Galilee woman at 9:50 p.m. Aug. 8 in the mobile home park.



•Accident. Police are searching for the driver of a Jeep who struck the left side rear bumper of a 2004 Honda Pilot driven by Carrie A. Whitmer, 30, of Portersville. The incident took place at 9:45 p.m. Saturday on Route 8, Slippery Rock Township, Butler County. Police said the unknown driver rapidly approached Whitmer’s vehicle, struck the bumper and fled the scene. Neither Whitmer nor her passenger, Brian J. Whitmer, 34, of Portersville, were injured.

•Retail theft. Christine E. Crepp, 24, of 409 Loop St., Ellwood City, was cited for retail theft after an incident that reportedly took place at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Giant Eagle, Franklin Township, Beaver County.
