Pair charged after domestic dispute turns bloody

NEW CASTLE — A couple engaged in a domestic dispute on the city’s South Side were arrested after the scene turned bloody.

New Castle police charged Travis Dummar, 32, and his wife, Kristy Lee Dummar, 36, both of 826 Morton St., who were found covered in blood in their home and taken to Jameson Hospital with cuts.

Police were alerted to the row around 7:10 p.m. Thursday by the couple’s children, who ranged from 4 to 12 years old. They informed officers their mother “was trying to kill their dad,” according to police.

When officers arrived, they found Kristy Dummar bleeding from her left hand and wearing blood-soaked clothing. According to police, she said she and her husband had been in an argument and he punched holes in the wall.

Travis Dummar told police he had punched some pictures and was trying to leave the house. They said he was bleeding from a cut on the left back side of his head and his hands were covered in dried blood.

Police saw a purple van outside with a shattered back window and a broken china cup in the driveway. Inside they found drops of blood throughout the house, and a hand shovel was on the table with blood on the handle.

The house was in shambles and furniture was broken throughout the living room, police reported, and there were broken pictures and shelving and numerous holes in the drywall.

Police confiscated a gun cartridge with five live .22-caliber rounds in it from the stairwell and two long rifles from a bedroom wall.

Both Travis and Kristy Dummar face one count each of endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

They were arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie and jailed in lieu of $1,000 bond each.

Police said the children were turned over to the care of a relative.
