STATE


•Accident. Police said Thomas G. Mortimer, 58, of West Middlesex, lost control of his vehicle on an icy bridge while eastbound on Route 422 about 4:15 a.m. Monday, striking the bridge rail on the left side of the highway. Officers said Mortimer was treated at Jameson Hospital for a minor injury. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

•Theft. Two gift cards were taken from a mailbox at Frederick’s Mobile Home Park in New Beaver Borough before 2:30 p.m. Monday.

New Castle police charged the following people:

•Michael David Boros Jr., 26. of New Castle, fleeing or attempting to elude officer, turning movements and required signals violation and driving without a license.

•Michael J. Rubin III, 53, of New Castle, driving under the influence, accidents involving death or personal injury and accident involving damage to attended vehicle or property.

•Donald Richard Wymer III, 26, of Ellwood City, charged by Ellwood City police with disorderly conduct.

•Erik Alvarado, 44, of New Castle, charged by the Lawrence County district attorney with failure to produce license, vaccination against rabies required and failure to apply for dog license.

•Christopher Caravella, 27, New Castle — Eighteen months to four years incarceration with credit given for 10 days served, costs of prosecution, $1,550 restitution to one victim and $1,300 restitution to a second victim. He pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property.

•Jonathan B. Malinchak, 25, New Castle — Ninety days to one year in the Lawrence County jail with credit for eight days served, to be served concurrently with any other sentence being served, and no contact with the victim. He pleaded guilty to simple assault.

•Jonathan B. Malinchak, 25, New Castle — Ninety days to one year in the Lawrence County jail to be served concurrently with any other sentence being served, $1,500 fine, costs of prosecution, Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol assessment, 18-month license suspension. He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

•Ozella Ellis, 44, Erie — Six months probation and costs of prosecution. She pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of motor vehicle.

•Ozella Ellis, 44, Erie — Six months probation and costs of prosecution. She pleaded guilty to theft.

•Mark A. Quear, 24, New Castle — One year probation and costs of prosecution. He pleaded guilty to theft from a motor vehicle.

•Mark A. Quear, 24, New Castle — Two years probation to be served concurrently with any other sentence being served, Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol referral, no contact with the victim. He pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

•Shelby Lynn Nicholson, 22, New Castle — Six months in the intermediate punishment program with the first seven days on house arrest beginning Jan. 3, costs of prosecution, $1,000 fine, Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol assessment, 12-month license suspension. She pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

•Nathan W. Smith, 33, Ellwood City — Nine to 23 1/2 months in the Lawrence County jail with credit for 140 days served, no contact with the victim, provide a DNA sample, Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol assessment. He pleaded guilty to burglary.
