•Burglary. Police said someone broke into an apartment in the 300 block of Halco Drive between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 4:50 a.m. Wednesday while a woman and two children were sleeping and stole $1,500 from a nightstand. The woman’s boyfriend woke her around 5 a.m. and said they had been robbed and that bedroom drawers were open.
•Attempted theft. Someone tried to steal a black Lincoln Navigator parked in the 500 block of East Winter Avenue, between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Wednesday. The ignition and steering column were damaged.
•Arrest. Nathan Perkins, 51, of 921 Harrison St., was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Monday for being at a Wallace Avenue apartment complex while on the no-trespassing list. Loretta Harrity, 43, a tenant of the apartment, is charged with conspiracy to commit defiant trespass for allegedly harboring Perkins.
•Burglary. Two plastic jars containing about $80 and a man’s gold ring were stolen from a home on Garfield Avenue between 3 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday. Police said Michael Ross Williams, 25, of 112 W. Garfield Ave., will be charged with burglary and theft in connection with the incident.
•Burglary. About 40 feet of copper pipe was stolen from a house in the 800 block of North Ashland Avenue Wednesday morning.
•Burglary. Three cell phones, a GPS system and two opened bottles of brandy were stolen from a Croton Avenue business Sept. 13 or 14. Someone entered the business through a garage door, police said.
•Burglary. A washing machine, dryer, dehumidifier, stove and refrigerator were stolen from a house in the 1000 block of South Cascade Street.
•Burglary. Candy was stolen from a house in the 700 block of Altman Road between 6:30 and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
•Shots fired. Someone reported four or five gunshots in the 600 block of West Madison Avenue around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Cleaners cause fire in vacant Halco unit
Lawrence County Housing Authority employees cleaning a vacant unit sparked a blaze Monday, according to city firefighters. The fire just before noon in the Halco Drive apartment caused $10,000 damage to the kitchen, they said.

Business ‘total loss’ after fire
A Little Beaver Township business was destroyed when a fire started in a garage. Enon Valley Volunteer Fire Chief Ben Hostetler said the blaze broke out about 12:20 a.m. Sunday in the garage of John Curea at 1791 State Route 551.

Vacant house fire may have been intentional
A vacant house on the city’s West Side burned over the weekend. The New Castle police department fire investigator has been called to determine what caused a blaze at 418 Conn St., near Bell Avenue.

Ex-attorney faces new set of charges
A disbarred attorney, already jailed on theft-related charges, is facing a new criminal case. Michael Frisk, formerly of Ellwood City and now serving time in the Lawrence County jail, is charged with forgery and other counts for allegedly taking money from an Allegheny County client.

Man charged in South Side break-in
A South Side man accused of breaking into a neighbor’s vacant house is facing charges. Alex John Benkosky, 21, of 821 S. Mercer St. faces one count each of burglary, criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension and criminal mischief.

Police use Taser in wanted man’s arrest
New Castle police say they used a Taser to arrest an Ellwood City man who was wanted on warrants. Police on Wednesday took 21-year-old Colby James Marshall of 5213 Ellwood Road into custody when they learned he was at a New Castle pharmacy.

Police: Man facing fourth DUI rams Shenango cruiser
Two weeks after a Shenango officer was killed during an attempted traffic stop, another fleeing driver rammed another township cruiser. A Scott Township man smashed into a cruiser early Friday while allegedly fleeing police.

Police: texting led to fatal accident
Police claim a woman’s texting on a cell phone contributed to a fatal accident earlier this month in Hickory Township. Laura E. Gargiulo, 42, of 2662 State Route 956, Volant, faces homicide by vehicle and other charges in connection with the May 7 death of Daniel E. Gallatin of Scott Township.

Hillsville man dead following shooting
A Mahoning Township man involved in a weekend shooting has died. Joseph Lupo, 50, of 4812 W. Main St. in Hillsville was pronounced dead Thursday by the Mahoning County, Ohio, coroner’s office.

Woman charged in fatal accident
A woman involved in a fatal accident in Hickory Township has been charged. Laura E. Gargiulo, 42, of 2662 State Route 956, Volant, faces charges of homicide by vehicle and others in the crash that led to the death of Daniel E. Gallatin of Scott Township.
