Police arrest four in Union Township drug raid

NEW CASTLE — Four people were arrested and drugs and a gun were confiscated Wednesday when police raided a house in Union Township.

Union Township police, with the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and New Castle police special response team and narcotics unit, served a sealed search warrant at 27 Spring St. just before 6:30 a.m.

A 5-year-old at the house with the four adults was turned over to Lawrence County Children and Youth Services.

There also were four dogs in the home. One was given to the father of one of the suspects. The others were taken to the Lawrence County Humane Society animal shelter, according to District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.

Police found a loaded .38-caliber Taurus Special handgun that had been hidden inside a red ski mask.

Six stamp bags of suspected heroin, with a total estimated street value of $100, were found in a secret compartment inside a hollowed-out pop can.

Police also seized two small bags of marijuana, 34.2 grams of suspected powered cocaine packaged in individual bags with a total estimated street value of $1,600, pills, a vial of steroids and $1,100 in $20 bills, divided into stacks of $100 each.

Lamancusa said the detail was initiated by the Union Township police department.

“This is another example of what can be accomplished with local law enforcement agencies working together.”
