NEW CASTLE —
A Mahoningtown man who police said led them on a high-speed chase through three municipalities faces 44 charges.
Jordan E. McMullen, 19, of 308 N. Cedar St., was arraigned Thursday morning before District Judge Jennifer Nicholson, who set his bond at $50,000. He remains in the Lawrence County jail.
McMullen faces one count each of retail theft, simple assault, harassment and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked; two counts each of assault of law enforcement officers, aggravated assault and criminal mischief; five counts each of reckless driving, traffic control signal violations and exceeding maximum speed limits; six each counts of fleeing or attempting to elude police and recklessly endangering another person; and seven counts of traffic sign violations.
According to court documents, Union Township police were called to Walmart just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to assist with a retail theft suspect. Police said he had been fighting with store security officers and a 73-year-old store greeter was knocked to the floor and suffered a broken hip.
Police said McMullen was suspected of taking electronic and stereo items and window decals.
Township police and five New Castle officers chased McMullen, they said, adding he reached speeds that exceeded 100 miles per hour and forced on-coming vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, off the roads in Mahoningtown and West Pittsburg.
Police said McMullen’s vehicle ran one New Castle police cruiser off the road and hit three cruisers. They said he ultimately lost control of his vehicle in West Pittsburg, skidding 300 feet, and striking a tree. Police then took him into custody.
