STATE
•Arrest. Justin Conner, 30, of Struthers, Ohio, was stopped for traffic violations on Route 422 between Evergreen and Ambrosia roads on Wednesday and charged with DUI, police said.
•Burglary. Someone caused damage to a door and door frame to gain access to the Bulk Food and Candy Co. in Volant between Feb. 23 and March 2, before removing several boxes of inventory and computer and DJ equipment.
•Hit-and-run. A vehicle was eastbound on Route 488 at the intersection of Mile Hill Road, Perry Township, about 7 a.m. Wednesday when it left the road for an unknown reason, struck a utility pole and road sign, and fled west, police said.
•Arrest. Callie E. Porter, 34, of Upper Idlewild Drive was charged with DUI in a parking lot on Route 224 in Union Township about 3:30 a.m. March 3, police said.
•Burglary. Police responded to a home along Beaver Dam Road, Little Beaver Township, on March 4 where someone had entered and removed jewelry and money.
•Accident. Police said a vehicle driven by Matthew Aeppli, 18, of Edinburg slid on an icy spot on Mohawk School Road near Hoffmaster Road on March 1 and struck the rear of a vehicle operated by Gregory A. Butchelle, 59, who had stopped and was awaiting oncoming traffic before turning into the parking lot of Mohawk schools.
•Accident. Suzanne E. Dambach, 61, of New Castle lost control of her vehicle on snow-covered Old State Road near Center Church Road, Slippery Rock Township, Wednesday, and struck a residence, police said.
•Accident. David P. Peterson, 51, of Youngstown was westbound on the ramp between Route 422 and Interstate 376, failed to negotiate a sharp left curve, left the road and struck a guide rail, police said. The incident occurred about 8 a.m. Thursday.
•Burglary. Police said someone forcibly entered a residence on Copper Road in Slippery Rock Township between Feb. 27 and March 10 and removed $200 in loose change and multiple items of jewelry.
•Accident. According to reports, a vehicle operated by Nancy J. Blaskewicz of New Castle was eastbound on Route 422 and then traveled onto the ramp to Interstate 376 eastbound, Union Township, about 1:30 p.m. Thursday when she lost control rounding a bend, spun in a clockwise direction and then struck a guard rail. She was charged with failing to drive at a safe speed.

Child says man tried to kidnap him
A 6-year-old playing in his yard Saturday night said a man tried to abduct him. Pennsylvania State Police said the child, playing on his swing set on Line Street, Perry Township, about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, was approached by a blond, bearded, tattooed man who tried to talk to him.

Two arrested in East Side drug raid
Narcotics officers arrested two men and seized heroin in a raid of a house on New Castle’s East Side. New Castle Police Chief Bobby Salem said city police and Lawrence County District Attorney’s detectives served a sealed search warrant at Apartment D, 502 Florence Ave., around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Police probe alleged overdose
New Castle police are investigating a reported drug overdose of a woman found in a car on the city’s West Side. The woman, 29-year-old Misty Blu McKim of Youngstown, was reported to have been in cardiac arrest and had two children in car seats in the back of the car.

Police arrest 15 in drug roundup
Police in Lawrence County arrested 15 people Thursday as part of an ongoing sweep of accused drug dealers. Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa said the detail, dubbed “Operation Spring Cleaning,” began around 10 a.m.

Man faces charges in stabbing
A lower North Hill man has been arrested following a stabbing. New Castle police reported that a West Side resident suffered slash wounds to the arm around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Car strikes, injures pedestrian on North Hill
A North Hill man was injured when he was hit by a car on Park Avenue. New Castle police said William Zeiger, 69, of 510 Reis St. was taken to Jameson Hospital with a cut on the back of his head following the incident that happened just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cyclist suffered ‘major’ injuries
A motorcyclist whose bike crashed on Highland Avenue Tuesday night suffered major injuries, New Castle police reported. Steven G. Addy, 62, of 135 E. Hillcrest Ave., was attempting to round a downhill curve in the area of Stewart Place and Grant Street around 7:45 p.m. when his left running board hit the road, according to police.

Street crimes unit nabs three on first day
The first day reaped success for the New Castle Police Department’s new street crimes unit. Police Chief Bobby Salem said the team effort Monday resulted in the arrest of two men on gun and drug charges and the arrest of a third man for an alleged robbery.
