NEW CASTLE —
An Ellwood City woman was listed in critical condition yesterday with injuries sustained in a Sunday morning accident.
Mary J. Ayres, 28, suffered the injuries in the two-vehicle accident on Route 18 in New Beaver. She was flown from the scene to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Pennsylvania state police said Ayres, operating a sport utility vehicle, was traveling south around 4:05 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go into the path of a northbound car driven by Marcia J. Bruno, 41, of New Castle. Police said the left side of Ayres’ vehicle struck the front end of Bruno’s car.
Bruno was treated at Jameson Hospital and released.
Police said passengers in both vehicles also were injured in the accident, but there was no hospital report on them.
Both vehicles had severe damage, police said.
