Man accused of attacking officers with scissors

NEW CASTLE — A man arrested on a bench warrant is accused of trying to attack police officers with scissors while being booked.

Police said as they removed handcuffs from Patrick Michael Waldren, 45, of 407 Pearson St. at the Lawrence County jail around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, he tried to grab a pair of scissors from the booking room desk to use as a weapon to assault them.

Police said Waldren became combative and told the officers with expletives they should not have had the scissors so close to him.

Waldren had been arrested after going to Jameson Hospital’s emergency room, claiming he had been hit in the head with a gun around 3 a.m. Sunday.

He reported to police he had gotten into a verbal argument with a man who had said he had a gun. Waldren said he ran but the man caught up to him and hit him in the head with the gun. He told police that he went home after that, put lotion on his feet and went to sleep.

Police said Waldren upon his arrest had given them several locations where the alleged incident had occurred, and that while he was at the emergency room, he swore loudly at officers and was warned several times to quiet down.

Police learned he was wanted on a warrant for a public drunkenness charge and arrested him.

Following the scissors incident at the jail, police and jail personnel placed Waldren in a restraint chair and lodged him in a holding cell. He is charged with aggravated and simple assault and harassment, and an additional disorderly conduct for his alleged behavior at the hospital.

He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who set his total bonds at $3,500.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to authorize Speaker John Boehner to sue President Obama for allegedly overstepping his legal authority with the way he's handled Obamacare. Good call?

Yes. Obama's been overstepping his authority since day one in office. It's time he pay the piper.
No. The allegations are ridiculous and the law suit is a waste of time and tax payer money.
I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but the suit seems a little extreme.
