Man jailed on charges of assault

NEW CASTLE — A California man was jailed on $50,000 bond after allegedly assaulting a woman and becoming unruly with police.

Documents filed in the office of District Judge David Rishel note My Phan, 26, of Stockton, Calif., faces two counts of aggravated assault and other charges as the result of an incident Thursday on Moyer Road in Shenango Township.

According to Shenango Township police, officers were summoned to the area after a man reported witnessing Phan striking a woman.

Police said they spoke with a woman who reported Phan had hit her and pulled her hair while they were driving. Police said the woman appeared to have redness on her face from being struck.

Officers described Phan as intoxicated and he was arrested. They said he was placed in the rear of a cruiser, where he began to strike his head on a side window. When an officer told him to stop, police said Phan attempted to kick the officer.

In addition to the aggravated assault counts, Phan is charged with intent to commit criminal mischief, simple assault, public drunkenness and harassment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
