•Theft. Someone stole a metal ashtray valued at $200 from the outside basement stairwell of St. Mary Church between Dec. 28 and Wednesday. A church custodian said he has found homeless people sleeping in the stairwell during the past few months and has requested extra patrol in the area.
•Theft. A blue Chrysler Town and Country sedan was stolen from a lot in the 400 block of East Long Avenue between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3:15 a.m. Thursday. The owner told police he had left the keys in the car.
•Counterfeit bills. A West Pittsburg convenience store reported to police that five counterfeit $10 bills were used to pay for merchandise Dec. 27. The bank discovered the bills when the store made a weekend deposit, police said. The bills all have a serial number of JK 02619506 A.
•Burglary. Copper plumbing was stolen from the basement of a house in the 800 block of Frank Avenue. The break-in was discovered around noon Wednesday.
•Theft. A woman at the Crisis Shelter on West State Street reported that about $91 was taken from her locker between Tuesday and Wednesday. The locker had been forced open, police said. The woman also reported her prescription medication — about two dozen 10-mg oxycodone pills, 80 Valium and about 40 Soma pills — were missing from her purse in her room.
•Burglary. Someone broke into a house in the 1300 block of Croton Avenue around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday. The house was ransacked and multiple items were broken, police said, and trash was strewn throughout the rooms.
