East Side garage ‘total loss’ in fire

NEW CASTLE — The New Castle police department fire investigator was called for a blaze at a garage.

The three-bay garage at 626 Superior St. was a total loss, according to New Castle firefighters, who were called about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday. They remained at the scene until nearly 3 a.m.

Firefighters said the blaze, which began inside the garage, spread to the left side and to a fence outside. They said a Dodge Neon was in the garage at the time.

The property owner, Helen Thompson, told firefighters she had not been inside the building lately. Her son said he had been inside looking over his late father’s equipment, but noted the building had been secure when he left.

Firefighters estimated the value of the building at $30,000, the contents at $10,000 and the vehicle at $5,000.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
