NEW CASTLE —
•Assault. Police charged Andre Hall, 36, of 706 Pearson St. and 116 Friendship St. with assault at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. A woman told police Hall had assaulted her at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, punching her in the face and pushing her to the ground. Officers said a protection from abuse order had been filed but never served.
•Assault. Edward David Owens, 27, of 1011 Highland Ave., was charged with simple assault and harassment after he allegedly struck his girlfriend in the head with a shoe and punched her in the ribs early Sunday morning.
•Assault. Malcolm Jones, 19, of 18 Big Run St. was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment and jailed on $1,500 bond. The victim told police Jones became agitated when she prevented him from “getting high” Saturday morning. He was arrested at his residence at 12:40 p.m.
•Criminal mischief. A Morris Street resident told police the passenger side window of her vehicle was shot out about 5:30 p.m. Friday as she drove on North Street.
•Theft. A multi-pack battery charger, valued at $450, was taken from a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Waldo Street between 12:01 a.m. and 4 p.m. Oct. 19.
•Theft. A purse was taken from a vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Summit Street before 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
•Theft. A silver, 2009 Chevy Cobalt was taken from the 400 block of East Leasure Avenue about 4 a.m. Sunday.
•Theft. About 40 feet of copper pipe, valued at $100, was taken from a rental property in the 600 block of Arlington Avenue between Friday and 4:40 p.m. Sunday.
•Accident. Police said Jason Betker, 28, of Harlansburg Road, southbound on Mill Street about 7:20 p.m. Oct. 18, collided with a vehicle driven by Anne Peters, 85, of East Reynolds Street, eastbound on Reynolds Street. Both drivers claimed to have had a green light. A witness told police it was Betker who ran the red light. Peters was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew. Officers said both vehicles were towed.
•Accident. Police said Lindsey P. Kimmel, 57, of New Castle, southbound on Eastbrook-Volant Road in Hickory Township about 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 24, hit a deer. Police said she then struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over. Officers said she sustained minor injury and was taken to Jameson Hospital.
•Accident. Police said Joseph C. Williams, 29, of Pulaski, eastbound on Route 422 in Mahoning Township about 9 p.m. Oct. 21, swerved to avoid a vehicle traveling in the same direction. Police said WIlliams’ car left the road, turning over several times. Williams sustained moderate injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, police said, adding he was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
•Accident. Police said Brent E. Williams, 50, of Ellwood City, eastbound on Portersville Road in Perry Township at 10:25 p.m. Oct. 19, crossed into the westbound lane and was hit by a car driven by Kristopher D. Main, 23, of Ellwood City. No injuries were reported. Williams was cited for traffic violations.
•Theft. Police said political signs were taken from the yard of a Young Road residence in Slippery Rock Township Oct. 24.
•Harassment. Police charged Kacy L. Stillwagon, 34, of New Castle, with harassment after allegedly making repeated contact with a 22-year-old victim via phone and appearing at the victim’s place of employment in North Beaver Township. Police said the incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23.
•Burglary. Police said 50 feet of copper pipe, connecting an oil tank to a Rosepoint-Harlansburg Road residence in Scott Township, was taken between May 20 and Oct. 6.
•Accident. Police said Marc J. Zarecky of West Middlesex apparently lost control of his vehicle while westbound on I-376 at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 25. Police said Zarecky’s vehicle rolled over and he sustained minor injuries.
•Accident. Police said Martha R. Shannon, 95, of New Castle, southbound on Scotland Lane, Union Township, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24, collided with a car driven by Elizabeth DeThomas, 79, of New Castle, turning onto Scotland Lane from West Washington Street. Police said Shannon traveled left of center and her left front side struck the left front corner of DeThomas’ vehicle. No injuries were reported. Police cited Shannon for driving on the wrong side of the road.
•Accident. Police said an unknown vehicle, traveling at a speed greater than reasonable for conditions, failed to negotiate a left curve in the road, left the road and struck an electric fence post. The accident occurred about 5 p.m. Oct. 27 on Darlington Road near Possum Hollow Road in New Beaver Borough.
•Accident. Police said Daniel C. Harbison, 59, of Enon Valley, westbound on I-376 in Union Township about 8 p.m. Oct. 26 struck a deer. Officers said the car sustained moderate front-end damage and was towed. No injuries were reported.
•Accident. Police said a 17-year-old male, whom they did not name, was eastbound on Savannah Road in Shenango Township in a 1998 Ford Ranger about 1:15 p.m. Oct. 27 and apparently lost control. Police said he failed to negotiate a left curve and struck a utility pole. Police said the driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. He was transported to Jameson Hospital as a precaution, according to police, who cited him for driving at an unsafe speed. The pole, which was resting on the vehicle, sustained major damage and required replacement, officers said.
•Accident. Police said Aimee Mengel of 1148 Pin Oak Drive and Akilah Daniels of 9 Madonna Drive both hit the back of a vehicle driven by Mary Bullano of 518 Kalchris Lane about 5:50 p.m. on Saturday on Winter Road at West Washington Street. Officers said the road was wet at the time of the accident. Police said the Daniels and Bullano vehicles could be driven away. Mengel’s car was towed.

Man charged in South Side break-in
A South Side man accused of breaking into a neighbor’s vacant house is facing charges. Alex John Benkosky, 21, of 821 S. Mercer St. faces one count each of burglary, criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension and criminal mischief.
Police use Taser in wanted man’s arrest
New Castle police say they used a Taser to arrest an Ellwood City man who was wanted on warrants. Police on Wednesday took 21-year-old Colby James Marshall of 5213 Ellwood Road into custody when they learned he was at a New Castle pharmacy.
Police: Man facing fourth DUI rams Shenango cruiser
Two weeks after a Shenango officer was killed during an attempted traffic stop, another fleeing driver rammed another township cruiser. A Scott Township man smashed into a cruiser early Friday while allegedly fleeing police.
Police: texting led to fatal accident
Police claim a woman’s texting on a cell phone contributed to a fatal accident earlier this month in Hickory Township. Laura E. Gargiulo, 42, of 2662 State Route 956, Volant, faces homicide by vehicle and other charges in connection with the May 7 death of Daniel E. Gallatin of Scott Township.
Hillsville man dead following shooting
A Mahoning Township man involved in a weekend shooting has died. Joseph Lupo, 50, of 4812 W. Main St. in Hillsville was pronounced dead Thursday by the Mahoning County, Ohio, coroner’s office.
Woman charged in fatal accident
A woman involved in a fatal accident in Hickory Township has been charged. Laura E. Gargiulo, 42, of 2662 State Route 956, Volant, faces charges of homicide by vehicle and others in the crash that led to the death of Daniel E. Gallatin of Scott Township.

Broken jaw leads to assault charge
A Pittsburgh man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly breaking another man’s jaw in New Wilmington. Matthew Vincent Wagner, 22, was charged by New Wilmington police as the result of an incident early May 5 at the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity house on Waugh Avenue.
South Side robbery being probed
New Castle police are investigating a robbery on the South Side. A 22-year-old woman told police she had been walking in the alley between Hamilton Street and Pennsylvania Avenue around 3:30 a.m. May 8 when someone grabbed her from behind and punched her numerous times in the left side of her face.
Man reports being robbed on East Side
New Castle police are investigating a report of robbery on Arlington Avenue. A 24-year-old man told police he had been in the 800 block, walking to a friend’s house, around 12:50 a.m. Saturday, when he was jumped by a man who stole his wallet and cell phone.
