NEW CASTLE —
•Suspicious person. Police have received reports of a man driving a blue four-door Chevrolet pickup truck asking for scrap metal in the Castlewood area. A vehicle matching that description also was seen at the end of Woodview Drive under what police described as suspicous circumstances. Anyone who sees a vehicle matching this description is being asked to contact police via 911.
•Criminal mischief. Someone drove a vehicle into a back porch in the 900 block of Oak Street Monday, breaking the steps and railing.
•Theft. Various jewelry items and a red piggy bank containing $1,500 were stolen from a house in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue between 6 and 9 p.m. Tuesday.
•Theft. A Ruger 9 mm handgun and a registration plate were reported stolen from a car in the 1100 block of Booker Drive overnight Monday to Tuesday.
•Burglary. Someone tried to break into a safety deposit box inside a house in the 300 block of Nutz Street between 6:30 and 11 p.m. Tuesday.
•Theft. A black purse containing $35 was stolen from a car in the 1100 block of Pin Oak Drive around 12:20 a.m. Oct. 4. A woman said she gave two women a ride and they took her purse and ran.
•Theft. Two infrared game cameras were stolen from a wooded area of Locust Street between Sept. 24 and Oct. 4.
•Burglary. Someone broke into a home in the 400 block of Fern Street and stole a television between 6 and 6:15 p.m. Oct. 3.
•Theft. A Garfield Avenue resident reported that $1,560 had been removed fraudulently from her bank accounts through six transactions. She told police she believes someone may have stolen her mail.
•Burglary. Three cases of beef rib-eye loins were stolen from Wholesome Foods, 809 Sampson St. around 10 p.m. Sept. 26. The freezer lock was broken off and copper pipe was cut from an upstairs room.
•Burglary. Someone broke into a house in the 600 block of East Reynolds Street between 4 and 10:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and stole copper pipe from the basement.
•Theft. A weed eater, two carpet cleaners, a chop saw, a lawnmower, a snow blower and a generator were stolen from a garage in the 1500 block of Hanna Street between Sept. 20 and 26.
•Burglary. Someone broke into the Eintracht Singing Society hall at 108 Taylor St. Sept. 27, broke open the safe and stole money. There was no sign of forced entry, police said.
•Criminal mischief. The back window of a house in the 700 block of Arlington Avenue was broken between 4 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 2.
•Shots fired. Police found four 9 mm casings on the ground on Scott Street near Court Street around 9 p.m. Oct. 2 after gunshots were reported.
•Accident. Samantha Irene Bara, 30, 22 Laurel Blvd. told police her car had been hit by a purple van while she was going west on West Falls Street around 10 p.m. Friday. The van then left. During a domestic call on Altman Road, police determined the vehicle that had hit Bara was a Dodge Caravan driven by Roderick Proctor Jr., 22, of 747 Altman Drive. He is charged with accidents with damage to attended vehicle, driving without a license, driving without insurance and a stop sign violation.
•Burglary. Someone broke into an apartment in the 100 block of East Wallace Avenue between 1 and 3:30 p.m. Monday and ransacked it.
•Burglary. A video game console and three games were stolen from an apartment in the 1000 block of Beech Street between 1:45 and 7:40 p.m. Saturday.
•Burglary. A chain with a Jesus charm, eight men’s watches and about three pairs of men’s shoes were stolen from an apartment in the 100 block of East Wallace Avenue between 1 p.m. Sunday and 3:30 p.m. Monday.
•Theft. A laptop computer was stolen from a home in the 100 block of East Wabash Avenue about 3 p.m. Friday.
